The Unsung Heroes of the WRC Safari Rally ¶

As the dust settles in Naivasha, we reflect on the WRC Safari Rally and honor the individuals who made it a success. Dr. David Karuri and his medical team, along with MIVs, rushed to help Tejveer Rai after his vehicle rolled, preventing a potentially disastrous situation.
The TIV team, comprising Daniel Akal Junior and Malia Shiek, played a crucial role in the rescue operation, using specialized equipment to safely extract Tejveer from the vehicle.
Robert Weru Mwangi, a Kenyan photographer, was part of the international team capturing the event's moments for WRC's social media platforms, website, and app. He also designed the branding and livery for many rally cars, including the Betika trio.
Jeff Mayes, a seasoned motorsports photographer and tour operator, worked with @world photography to capture the rally's memorable moments for Toyota Gazoo Racing.
The marshals and TIV teams worked tirelessly, often with minimal sleep, to ensure the event's smooth running and safety. They braved the cold Naivasha mornings, towing and rescuing stranded drivers from the rally section.
Radio control personnel, often perceived as arrogant or snobbish, are actually dedicated individuals who provide critical timing and communication services. They act as the 'eye and ears' of Rally HQ, confirming incidents and accidents along the route.
Stage Commanders, responsible for controlling the stages and ensuring crews are correctly located, are the first to arrive and the last to leave. They collect rally furniture and support their fellow Stage Commanders after each stage.
Norris Ongallo, the chief of Safety, worked closely with Clerk of Course Ghurvir Bhabra to plan and execute the safety plan, published in the Rally Safety Book. His dedication and attention to detail ensured a successful rally after 19 years.
