On July 8, 2021, a significant partnership was forged between the National Construction Authority (NCA) and the National Police Service (NPS) to enforce construction regulations in Kenya.
The partnership, which started in February 2021, aims to create a collaborative environment between the two institutions to ensure compliance with construction industry regulations.
As part of this initiative, police commanders in Isiolo were recently sensitized on their role in enforcing construction industry regulations.
The National Construction Authority, which is responsible for accreditation and project registration, also ensures that construction sites are compliant with the required rules and regulations governing the industry.
According to Qs. Susan Ruto, the NCA Registration and Compliance General Manager, the need for quality adherence in construction sites is paramount.
“Developers and contractors often defy suspensions by the Authority and continue with constructions, hence the need to partner with the police who are the law enforcement agencies to assist in checking such knotty cases,” she noted.
Isiolo County Police Commander Joseph Kigen acknowledged the need for new construction sites to be registered and for accredited workers to avert disasters.
The Commander promised to work with the NCA whenever construction activities are being carried out in the county to ensure that players abide by the law.
Present at the event was Dr. Ochieng Duncan, Director of the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) under the office of the IG of police.
