On July 1, 2021, a shocking incident occurred in Langata, Nairobi, where a security guard, Boniface Ngare, was found inside his employer's house, Daniel Kamau, in search of food.
Ngare, who was guarding the house, had gained entry into the residential property in search of something to eat due to hunger pangs. He was found in a room where Kamau stores beer and other beverages, but unfortunately, he couldn't find anything to eat.
Ngare's supervisors were called in, and he confessed to entering the house in search of food but only took one beer. He also admitted to allowing strangers to pass through the premises in exchange for food.
Members of the public in the court were outraged upon hearing the news, and Ngare's actions sparked a heated debate about the state of security guards in Kenya.
Senior resident magistrate Sharon Maroro ordered Ngare's social inquiry report to be tabled before her on July 14, 2021, before sentencing the guard.
