On July 8, 2021, President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his condolences to the family and friends of veteran journalist Hillary Ng'weno, who had passed away.
"Hilary Ng'weno is a Kenyan household name because of his immense journalistic achievements as an editor, publisher, broadcaster, and documentary filmmaker," the President said.
Ng'weno's work had left a lasting impact on Kenyan society, with his documentary videos on Kenyan history serving as a valuable source of information on the country's growth and development.
Deputy President William Ruto also eulogized Ng'weno, describing him as the father of Kenyan journalism.
"Ng'weno's career began as a brilliant scribe, but he firmly established himself as a towering journalist and a historian of tremendous power," Ruto said.
The Deputy President noted that Ng'weno had pioneered robust, independent, and profound journalism that had deepened Kenya's democracy and shed light on government and governance.
