On July 8, 2021, a power struggle between top officials in Nairobi's Inspectorate department came to a head, resulting in the transfer of four key officers.

The affected officers include Director Benjamin Omondi, Deputy Director Joseph Kipsang, Assistant Director Caroline Wairimu Njuguna, and Assistant Director Tom Seme, who oversees operations.

The transfers were reportedly ordered by Acting County Secretary Jairus Musumba, citing Article 72 of the County Government Act 2012.

According to a letter from Musumba, the officers were redeployed to the Commerce, Tourism, and Industrialization sector.

Opposition MCA's have come to the defense of the transferred officers, accusing Chief Officer Mark Leleruk of perpetuating illegality, including unauthorized demolitions.

‘‘They have refused to take part in illegality perpetrated by Leleruk and section of rogue MCAs particularly the demolitions that is going on…we shall not allow Leleruk just an officer who was seconded to us to ruin life of our offices because of interests,’’ an opposition MCA told Taarifa News.
