On July 7, 2021, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya addressed the new KTDA Holdings Board at a Nairobi hotel, emphasizing the need for swift action to improve farmers' earnings and restore the sub-sector's sustainability and profitability.

Munya noted that the new board has taken up the leadership mantle amidst ongoing reforms, with increased expectations to refocus the businesses' objectives to serve the interests of farmers.

He urged the board to restore the original mandate of KTDA Holdings Ltd, executed through KTDA Management Services Ltd, and refocus the respective subsidiaries towards serving farmers' interests and delivering value to shareholders.

Government's commitment to facilitating policy support in the sub-sector was reiterated, with a caution that the effectiveness of this support will only be realized if there is reciprocation from stakeholders.

As part of this commitment, the Tea Board of Kenya will continue to promote and market tea, but KTDA Holdings Ltd must play its part in managing tea for the smallholder sub-sector.
