On July 8, 2021, the High Court made a shocking decision, acquitting Phillip Onyancha, a suspected serial killer, of one murder charge.
The acquittal stems from the 2008 murder of Chepng'etich Misoi, a case that has left many questioning the police's investigation methods.
According to the trial judge, Jesse Lesit, the police failed to conduct a thorough investigation, which led to the acquittal of Onyancha.
During the trial, Onyancha denied any involvement in Misoi's murder, claiming that a woman he was accused of killing had actually committed suicide in her house at the Mount Kenya Building in Nairobi.
Onyancha's defense was that he was not present at the scene of the crime on the night of May 29 and 30, 2008, as alleged by the state.
Although Onyancha has been acquitted of one charge, he still faces two other pending cases in court.
