Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling went down after a challenge by Joakim Maehle in the first half of extra time, leading to a contentious penalty decision.
Although Harry Kane's initial spot-kick was saved by Kasper Schmeichel, the England captain scored the rebound to send his team through to the final against Italy.
Speaking to ITV, Sterling said, 'I went into the box and he stuck his right leg out, and it touched my leg so it was a clear penalty.'
England's victory marked their first major final appearance since the 1966 World Cup, with Sterling being a standout performer for Gareth Southgate's side at Wembley.
Reflecting on the win, Sterling added, 'It's another step in the right direction, but once we're back in the dressing room it's over and we've got to focus on the weekend now.'
