On July 8, 2021, a video went viral on social media, allegedly showing a traffic police officer being robbed of his phone while controlling traffic at Roysambu roundabout on Thika Road in Nairobi.

However, the National Police Service has since dismissed the video as fake, stating that it was forged for malicious purposes against the service.

In a statement, the NPS urged members of the public to treat the video with contempt, saying that their investigations had revealed the video to be manipulated.

"Our investigations have revealed that a video circulating on social media insinuating to be of a police officer being snatched a phone is a manipulated video whose intention is malicious. We urge members of the public to ignore it," the NPS stated.
