On July 8, 2021, Mombasa tycoon and former gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal made a significant move in Kenya's political landscape, resigning from the Jubilee Party and joining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Shahbal's decision comes after hosting ODM leader Raila Odinga and other top officials at his Mombasa residence, led by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.
"I have, today, officially resigned from the Jubilee Party. This follows my announcement to join the ODM party," Shahbal said in a statement.
He expressed gratitude to the Jubilee Party leadership for their support during his membership and pledged to work towards the merger between Jubilee and ODM parties.
Shahbal will now contest the Mombasa gubernatorial seat in 2022 through an ODM ticket.
