On June 30, 2019, Madagascar made history at the Africa Cup of Nations by stunning three-time winners Nigeria 2-0 in a Group B match in Egypt.

Lalaina Nomenjanahary, a French Ligue 2 player for Paris FC, scored his third international goal after pouncing on a defensive error by Nigeria's John Ogu.

Carolus Andriamatsinoro's deflected free-kick then sealed Madagascar's win, sending them into the last 16 as Group B winners.

Despite being ranked 108th in the world, Madagascar's victory was a testament to their determination and skill on the field.

Nigeria, who dominated possession but were punished for their defensive mistakes, will proceed to the next round as runners-up.
