On July 7, 2021, a gruesome murder shook the Kenya Medical Training College community in Homa Bay. A 23-year-old student, Emily Chepkemoi, was found dead in her rental house in Oriang Estate.

According to Berege, Odoyo is being questioned as he is likely to have crucial information about the murder. The suspect will be arraigned when investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, an autopsy conducted on Tuesday revealed that Ms. Chepkemoi died from suffocation and had been stabbed three times in the head and upper arm.
Ms. Chepkemoi's brother, Joseph Kipruto, called for justice for his sister, saying, “We’re total orphans in our family. It’s very sad indeed and what we want is justice.”
