On July 2, 2021, at around midnight, five suspects were caught trying to drill their way into the cash reserves of a Prime Bank branch in Nairobi's CBD.
Reuben Njukia Ngunyu, Charles Mugo Njokia, Jesse Muriuki Murumia, Fredrick Muderwa Anaya, and Gabriel Mugai Muthoni were found with various crude weapons, including hacksaws, metal bars, and a manual driller, indicating their intention to commit a felony.
They were arraigned at the Milimani Chief Magistrate's court, where they denied the charges.
State counsel Anderson Gikunda opposed their release on bail, citing a similar case against the first accused, Reuben Njukia Ngunyu, who was released on cash bail in 2020.
However, the court released four of the suspects on a cash bail of Sh300,000 each, while the first accused was denied bail.
The case will come up for mention on July 19.
