On July 7, 2021, The Diaspora Times, in conjunction with The Kenya Airlift Program and other partners, announced the winners of a highly competitive essay writing competition for Kenyan rural high school students.
Four outstanding students were selected from a pool of talented writers, with Favour Pereza Kimeli of Thika Garrison High School taking the top prize of Ksh. 100,000 for her exceptional essay.
Kimeli was closely followed by Khan Yusuf of Mbooni Boys High School, who emerged as the second-best writer and received Ksh. 60,000. Peter Nzuve, also from Mbooni Boys High School, secured the third position and won Ksh. 40,000.
Maxwel Okal from Chianda Boys High School in Siaya rounded out the top four, taking home Ksh. 20,000 for his impressive essay.
The competition, which was open to students in forms 2 to 4, aimed to encourage bright students to develop their writing skills. The winners will be officially feted on July 24, 2021, via a virtual event on Zoom.
