On July 6, 2021, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) made a shocking claim that senior Kenyan government officials were promised money and oil in exchange for the abduction and extradition of their besieged leader Nnamdi Kanu.

The group, which is calling for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria, alleged that a senior envoy from Nigeria negotiated with Kenyan officials to abduct Kanu and extradite him to Nigeria.

According to IPOB, a high-ranking government official in Kenya was blinded by the promise of money and oil before agreeing to the deal.

"From our intelligence, Kenya betrayed our leader because of financial inducement and offer of oil by Nigeria. The negotiations were midwived by a Nigerian envoy in Nairobi who bargained with the Kenyan Immigration Authorities. Kenyan officials were blinded with the oil offer and consented to this wickedness," the group stated.

IPOB also claimed that Kanu was abducted and tortured by Kenyan authorities for eight days before he was extradited.

The group has maintained that the boycott on Kenyan products and services is still on.
