On 6 July 2021, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry launched the official Human Resource Month celebrations at Uhuru Park grounds, marking the beginning of a new era in promoting sustainable practices in Kenya's business sector.

Ministry of Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko called upon HR professionals to adopt strategies that create greater efficiencies while reducing carbon footprint.

Tobiko emphasized the need to manage costs, enhance employee engagement, and promote sustainable business practices, citing the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration launched on 5th June 2021.

He stated that the launch coincides with the Covid-19 disruption, which has affected social, economic, and environmental tenets of development, resulting in millions of deaths, illnesses, and job losses.

The Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) National Chair, Joseph Onyango, urged organizations to switch to digital platforms to promote environmental and economic sustainability.

Onyango announced that IHRM aims to plant 4.7 million trees across the country by engaging its 14,000 members to plant at least 100,000 seedlings in every county.

Ms Quresha Abdullahi, Executive Director, IHRM, expressed concern over the mismanagement of resources by the public, urging the government to ensure that imported products meet required standards to reduce carbon footprint.
