On Tuesday, July 6, 2021, a heroic act was witnessed in Webuye as a man risked his life to save a Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) employee who was electrocuted while attempting to fix a problem atop a pole.

The incident occurred just a month after a boda boda rider was electrocuted to death while washing his motorcycle in Kanduyi.

According to an amateur video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the Webuye man climbed an electric pole and helped tie up the electrician who was unconscious at the time.

Minutes later, a KPLC employee arrived at the scene and helped to bring down the man using a rope tied around his waist.

Residents were heard issuing instructions to the two men, and after nine minutes and fifty-five seconds, the rescue mission was complete.

The electrocuted man was rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment.

Kenya Power's Safety, Health, and Environment Manager, John Guda, had previously stated that 74 percent of electrocution cases are due to unsafe public practices.

"We insist that people must safely use electricity," Guda stated.

"The other 26 percent can be attributed to Kenya Power operations, contractors, and non-compliance standards," he added.
