Operations have resumed at the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) headquarters in Nairobi, just days after a contentious auctioneer raid.
According to KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, the raid was sparked by accumulated debts at the union's Homabay branch, which the head office was responsible for.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio News, Oyuu acknowledged the debt crisis and assured teachers that services have resumed, despite the challenges.
‘‘It was something normal to any organisation and those that were peddling rumours that KNUT was auctioned were simply malicious and I can assure you that we are working and teachers are receiving services,’’ Oyuu said.
KNUT is currently grappling with debts due to reduced union dues following a mass exit of a section of teachers.
Items collected by the auctioneers last week include computers, furniture, and other property.
