On July 5, 2021, a group of unidentified gunmen stormed the Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi town, Chikun local government area, in Nigeria's northwestern state of Kaduna.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the day, with the gunmen taking away an unknown number of students and teachers, according to local police.
As a result of the attack, the Kaduna state government has ordered the immediate closure of 13 schools, which are believed to be vulnerable to gunmen attacks.
Umma Ahmed, an official in charge of education affairs in the state, stated that the closure was with immediate effect and warned against failure to comply.
According to Nigerian police, 26 students and one teacher had regained their freedom as security operatives chased after the gunmen, but the actual number of students kidnapped remains unknown.
