On Tuesday morning, police in Nanyuki apprehended a 35-year-old man accused of breaking into the Laikipia County Assembly premises and committing a heinous act.
According to Laikipia East Sub-County Police Commander John Tarus, the suspect, Morris Mwenda, was positively identified after his face was caught on CCTV cameras during the break-ins on Tuesday and Thursday last week.
During the arrest, Mwenda demanded to meet the County Assembly Speaker, Patrick Waigwa, and was subsequently taken to Nanyuki Police Station for further investigation.
It is alleged that Mwenda had previously filed a report at the Nanyuki post claiming a commercial sex worker stole his phone after he failed to pay her Sh2,000.
As investigations continue, Mwenda will be charged with burglary, said Tarus.
Interestingly, Mwenda resides at Likii Estate, located on the outskirts of Nanyuki, and hails from Tharaka Nithi County.
