The Lusaka International Championships, set to take place from July 9-12, 2021, in Zambia, is a crucial tournament for the Kenyan national women's polo team. The team, consisting of captain Izzy Parsons, Tiva Gross, Aisha Gross, and Cheza Millar, alongside coach Jammie Murray, will depart for Lusaka on Wednesday.
According to Izzy Parsons, the tournament is meant to raise funds for cancer awareness in Zambia. 'This is a crucial tournament meant to raise funds for cancer awareness for Zambians. We hope to succeed in this endeavour,' Parsons stated in an interview with Standard Sports on July 6, 2021.
The team's first two matches on Friday and Saturday will be ping pong polo matches, where Kenyan and Zambian players will be mixed to test horses in different teams. The friendly matches will be played using Zambian horses to raise awareness for cancer.
On the first two days of ping pong polo, it will be a matter of trying to test and get used to Zambian horses before the official match between the senior sides of the two teams on the final day, as stated by Parsons.
As the Kenyan ladies will be competing in Zambia, the Zambian men's team will be travelling to Nairobi for the Kenya International Championships at Manyatta Polo Club, Gilgil on July 23-25, 2021.
