On July 6, 2021, a tragic accident occurred along the Sori-Rodi Kopany road in Homa Bay County, leaving one woman dead and a miracle baby survivor.
Sharon Otieno, a mother of a three-year-old girl, was on foot when a truck driver lost control and hit her from behind. Miraculously, the baby strapped on her mother's back survived the accident with minor bruises on her head.
As good Samaritans struggled to untie the baby from her dead mother, the little girl wailed in distress, separated from the only person she knew.
The body of Sharon Otieno was taken to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary, while the baby was rushed to Ndhiwa Sub-county Hospital for treatment.
According to Ndhiwa Sub-county Police Commander Robert Aboki, the driver of the lorry had been arrested and was being held at the police station to prevent a mob attack.
“The driver drove to the police station to escape mob attack. He reported the matter to us and we have detained him,” Aboki said.
Aboki added that the suspect would be taken to court after completion of their investigations.
