Published on July 6, 2021, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has set his sights on the presidency, saying he has what it takes to win the top seat in the August 9, 2022, elections.
Muturi, who has been appointed as the Mt Kenya East spokesperson, believes there is a deficit in the country's leadership, which has hindered the implementation of national goals and values.
'I am not a daydreamer. I have set my sights very well. I think there is a deficit in the leadership of this country,' Muturi stated in a statement released on Monday.
He pointed out that despite having Vision 2030 and the Big 4 Agenda, Kenya has not achieved even half of its goals, and it is only 9 years to 2030.
Muturi's decision to run for the presidency was informed by the need to address the country's leadership deficit, which he believes is caused by irresponsibility and indiscipline among the political class and citizenry.
'Our problem is not lack of policies but irresponsibility and indiscipline. I seek to bring back that discipline. We can only achieve the things we have set if we are sufficiently accountable,' Muturi stated.
He emphasized the need to bring back values and discipline to succeed as a country, citing the example of hospitals lacking drugs despite annual allocations.
