Published on July 6, 2021, the DCI filed an affidavit before Milimani Law Courts seeking to detain the suspect for two weeks to complete investigations into the alleged attempted murder offence.
The police informed Magistrate Zainab Abdul that they are investigating an offence of attempted murder against Njanja, who allegedly shot three people at a club in Kasarani, Nairobi county, on July 2, 2021.
According to the affidavit, the victims were rushed to hospital, where one police officer was treated and discharged, while the other two, including a waitress, were admitted. The officer who was shot in the neck remains in critical condition.
The police recovered a Glock semi-automatic pistol and 38 rounds of 9mm ammunition from the suspect, who had been in hiding until July 5, 2021.
Njanja's lawyer, Cliff Ombetta, opposed the request, saying his client is not a flight risk. However, the victim's lawyer, Dan Maanzo, urged the court to allow the police more time to complete investigations.
Magistrate Zainab Abdul will deliver the ruling tomorrow.
