On July 2, popular musician Sheila Wairimu was arrested in connection with the theft of a Toyota Prado V8 vehicle belonging to the late PJ Dodhia Kumar in Kitale.
The arrest came after Kumar's family lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that Wairimu had fraudulently transferred ownership of the vehicle to herself just four days after Kumar's death.
According to documents obtained from the Transport Authority, Wairimu had accessed Kumar's NTSA account and substituted the ownership of the vehicle to herself without any supporting documents.
Police officers searched Wairimu in Kitengela and recovered the vehicle, which was then taken to Buruburu Police Station and later to Kitale Police Station.
Wairimu claimed that the vehicle had been given to her by Kumar's wife, who had authorized one of the relatives to report any property owned by the deceased.
However, the deceased's wife alleged that Wairimu had only been given the vehicle to 'use and return' by the deceased when they were in a relationship.
Wairimu will remain in police custody until July 5, when she will be prosecuted in court.
