Published on July 6, 2021, police in Homa Bay have launched an investigation into the murder of a student whose decomposing body was discovered in her rental house in Oriang Estate.
Emily Chepkemoi, a 23-year-old student at the Kenya Medical Training College, was found lifeless on Sunday afternoon by neighbors who grew suspicious of a foul smell emanating from the house.
According to neighbors, they last saw Chepkemoi on Friday, and her phone had been inactive since then.
Malvin Otieno, a neighbor, recalled seeing Chepkemoi on Friday afternoon as she entered the compound, but he had not seen her since then until her body was found inside the house.

Her body was discovered covered on a bed, with signs of rape and stabbing.
Area Assistant Chief Dancun Oketch stated that Chepkemoi's body had several stab wounds on her head, neck, and back.
Oketch also revealed that the boyfriend, believed to be involved in the murder, is being pursued by the police, and the incident is suspected to be a result of a love triangle.
Homa Bay Sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Monica Berege assured that the matter is being handled to ensure appropriate measures are taken against those responsible for the heinous act.
Chepkemoi was a first-year student pursuing a diploma in clinical medicine, and her close friends remembered her as a humble lady with a big heart.
