President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour of Ukambani region has been canceled at the last minute due to fears of a COVID-19 outbreak.
Originally scheduled to take place from July 6 to 7, the tour would have seen Uhuru visit the three counties of Kitui, Machakos, and Makueni.
Among the planned stops was the Konza Technopolis in Makueni, the Thwake Dam project, and the launch of the Kibwezi-Kitui road.
Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua explained that the tour was postponed to allow the Ministry of Health to monitor the situation and prevent the spread of the virus.
"Yes, the trip has been postponed for a few weeks to allow the Ministry of Health to monitor what appears to be the beginning of a 4th wave," Mutua said.
He added that as leaders of the region, they understand the importance of keeping their society safe and ensuring the President leads by example in complying with COVID-19 health guidelines.
