On Monday, July 5, 2021, a devastating road accident occurred in Ndhiwa town, Homa Bay county, resulting in the tragic loss of a 23-year-old woman's life.

Sharon Otieno, accompanied by her three-year-old daughter, was struck by a speeding truck along the Sori – Rodi Kopany Road while trekking on the pedestrian path.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman was carrying her child on her chest when the truck suddenly knocked her from behind, sending her flying before she landed by the roadside.

The woman sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene, while her daughter miraculously escaped with minor head bruises and was rushed to Ndhiwa Sub-county hospital for treatment.

The driver of the ill-fated truck, in an attempt to avoid mob justice, drove into Ndhiwa Police Station, where he reported the incident and was subsequently detained by the authorities.

Ndhiwa Sub County Police commander Robert Aboki confirmed the incident, stating that the driver has been arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation before being charged in court.

Aboki urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules to prevent the rising number of accidents on our roads.
