Kenya: Amonde to Lead Kenya Sevens Squad to Tokyo Olympics

Published on July 5, 2021, Kenya's rugby sevens team, Shujaa, is gearing up for the Tokyo Olympics, with Andrew Amonde set to lead the squad.

Head coach Innocent 'Namcos' Simiyu announced the final traveling squad on Monday, and Amonde will be joined by an experienced pack of four, including Collins Injera, who will make their second Olympics appearance after being part of the team at Rio 2016.

"The selection was tough as all the boys put in the work. We are happy to have a few experienced players fit and back into the fold. Our key target is getting out of the pool. Our first pool game will set the standard for our performance in Tokyo," coach Simiyu said.

The men's rugby sevens competition in Tokyo will run from July 26th to 28th, with Shujaa in Pool C alongside South Africa, USA, and Ireland.

  • Billy Odhiambo (Mwamba)

Non-traveling reserves include:

  • Bush Mwale (Homeboyz)
  • Derrick Keyoga (Menengai Oilers)
  • Dennis Ombachi (Nondescripts)
