CIC Insurance Group Leads Trading Volume at Nairobi Securities Exchange

On Monday, July 5th, 2021, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) witnessed significant trading activity, with CIC Insurance Group emerging as the top mover.

The company recorded the highest volume of traded shares, with 5.5 million shares changing hands, followed closely by Safaricom with 3.3 million shares, Absa Bank Kenya with 3.15 million shares, and Kenya Power & Lighting Company with 1.82 million shares.

Equity Group, on the other hand, traded 842,000 shares, marking the fifth highest volume of traded shares on the day.

Notably, CIC Insurance Group's stock price closed the day at KSh 2.60 per share, representing an 8.33% gain over its previous closing price of KSh 2.40.

As of July 5th, 2021, the company's share price had gained 22.07% since the beginning of the year, ranking it 7th in terms of year-to-date performance on the NSE.

Over the past four-week period, the stock's value has accrued 23.22%.

Established in 1978 as Co-operative Insurance Services Limited (CIS), CIC Insurance Company of Kenya Limited (CIC Insurance) rebranded in 1999 to its current name.

The company underwrites both Life and General classes of insurance.

On the day, Sameer Africa led the price gainers with a 10% share price appreciation, closing at KSh 3.74 per share.

Other notable gainers included CIC Insurance Group, Uchumi Supermarket, Eveready East Africa, and Nairobi Business Ventures.

On the losing side, East African Portland Cement Co was the worst performer, with a 10% end-of-day price depreciation to KSh 7.20 per share.

The NSE recorded a decline in turnover, with a total of 17,387,700 shares traded in 1,048 deals, corresponding to a market value of KSh 330.8 Million.

Compared to the previous trading session, there was a 2% decline in volume, a 47% decline in turnover, but a 3% improvement in deals.

The current market capitalization of the Nairobi Securities Exchange is KSh 2.64 trillion.

46 NSE listed equities participated in trading, with 24 gainers and 13 losers.
