On Monday, Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi addressed the press at Busia County Referral Hospital, emphasizing the importance of seeking proper diagnosis from public hospitals.

According to Mulomi, residents should avoid consulting quacks for diagnosis, as this can lead to loss of life due to inappropriate diagnosis.

He noted that public hospitals have trained and qualified personnel who can provide accurate diagnoses, urging laboratory technicians not to discourage locals from seeking diagnosis, even in the face of drug shortages.

Mulomi attributed a significant number of deaths in the county to late diagnosis, adding that simple medical problems are often detected too late or not addressed appropriately.

As part of efforts to address the issue, the County government has cleared an outstanding bill of Sh26 million owed to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

With the debt cleared, Mulomi expressed confidence that KEMSA will supply the county with drugs worth Sh54 million to be delivered to various public health facilities.
