July 5, 2021, marked a sad day for the people of Wajir County as news of the passing of Ibrahim Abass, a renowned North-Eastern legislator and politician, spread.
Abass, who was a Member of County Assembly of Eldas Ward, had been waiting to be airlifted to Nairobi for medication when he collapsed at the airport and died.
President Uhuru Kenyatta sent a message of condolence to the mourning family, describing Abass as a 'robust and progressive grassroots leader' who provided practical solutions to the challenges facing his constituents.
Deputy President William Ruto also extended his condolences, tweeting, 'In allillahi wainaillahi rajiuun, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return to. Condolences to the family, friends and the residents of Eldas Ward for the death of your Member of County Assembly, Ibrahim Abass.'
