Published on July 5, 2021, a joint operation by the police, the area Chief, and the Children's department led to the rescue of five children from their mother in Mitituni village, Machakos County.

The mother, Mueni Mwanza, was arrested and taken to the Mitituni police post on Saturday after the authorities raided her single-room makeshift home.

According to Emily Kimanzi, the Machakos Sub-County Children's Officer, the children were all rescued and placed at the Grape Vine Children's home in Utawala, Nairobi, after obtaining a court order.

"We have today rescued five children from their mother at Mitituni village who has been beating them up and neglecting them for long," Kimanzi said.

The children, aged between 2 ½ and 15 years, were found to be malnourished and in bad condition, with the 2-year-old requiring hospital treatment for pneumonia.

Chief Ancient Nzioki of Mitituni area reported that the mother had been continuously mistreating and neglecting her children, and that the first born had run away from home after severe mistreatment.
