Tea Auction Records another Fall in Prices

Published on July 5, 2021, the Mombasa Tea Auction held on June 28-30, 2021, offered a significant increase in tea quantities, with 13.6 million kilograms up for sale.

This marked a 9% increase from the 12.5 million kilograms offered during the same period in the previous year and a 4% increase from the 13 million kilograms sold during the previous sale.

Despite the increased quantities, the auction recorded a sharp decrease in prices, with a kilogram selling at an average price of $1.64, compared to $1.67 during the previous sale held on June 21-24, 2021, and $1.81 during the same period last year.

Of the tea offered for sale, 11.9 million kilograms were sold, a significant increase from the 10.1 million kilograms sold during the same period in the previous year and 11 million kilograms sold during the previous sale.
