On July 3, 2021, lawyer John Khaminwa, a key figure in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) appeal case, claimed that two men who identified themselves as police officers attached to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) visited his Kileleshwa offices in the afternoon.

Khaminwa, 84, alleged that the visit was an attempt to intimidate him over his submissions in the BBI appeal case. He claimed the men offered to provide him protection and referenced a succession case he handled in the past, but Khaminwa was suspicious of their intentions.

According to Khaminwa, the men also asked one of his assistants for money, which he refused. He suspected that they might have been sent by someone in a superior office to intimidate him.

However, the EACC denied the allegations, stating that it did not conduct any operation on July 3. In a tweet, the commission said, 'We wish to notify the public that we (EACC) did not conduct any operation yesterday and media reports suggesting that EACC visited the offices of John Khaminwa Senior Counsel are unfounded.'

Nairobi area police commander Augustine Nthumbi also corroborated the EACC's statement, saying that no police officer was sent to raid Khaminwa's offices on Saturday. He added that the police have launched an investigation into Khaminwa's claims.
