Published on July 5, 2021, a groundbreaking floating solar system was launched at Rift Valley Roses in Naivasha, marking a significant milestone in Kenya's renewable energy sector.

The innovative project, a collaboration between Rift Valley Roses and Ecoligo Solar Company, has installed a 69-kilowatt solar system on one of the farm's reservoirs, providing clean and reliable energy to the flower farm.

According to Stuart Millar, the farm owner, the high cost of electricity and frequent power outages have been major challenges facing the sector, which is yet to fully recover from the effects of Covid-19.

However, with the new solar system, the farm expects to save over Sh35 million in 20 years, while also reducing the rate of evaporation in the farm's dam.

German Deputy Ambassador Thomas Wimmer lauded the project, noting that it would produce clean energy and set a positive example for other flower farms in the country.
