On a thrilling Sunday, July 4, 2021, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup final saw defending champions Gor Mahia face off against AFC Leopards at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. The match ended in a goalless draw after 90 minutes, necessitating a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
Gor Mahia goalkeeper Gad Mathews proved to be the hero of the day, denying AFC Leopards' captain Isaac Kipyegon and Said Tsuma from scoring crucial penalties. Meanwhile, Gor Mahia's Sydney Ochieng, Kenneth Muguna, Clifton Miheso, and Samuel Onyango scored for their team, while Washington Munene scored the only goal for AFC Leopards.
With their victory, Gor Mahia secured a spot in the 2021/22 Caf Confederation Cup tournament. The team was awarded a trophy and Ksh2 million for their win, while AFC Leopards took home Ksh1 million as runners-up.
Individual awards were also given out, with Gor Mahia's Kenneth Muguna named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament and AFC Leopards' John Oyemba winning the best keeper award after keeping five clean sheets throughout the tournament.
