July 4, 2021 - Kisumu residents are making a surprising shift from motorbikes to bicycles as their preferred mode of transport.

According to Gobon Ngeso, a bicycle rider in Kisumu, the change is largely driven by the safety and affordability of bicycles.

"Nowadays Kisumu residents prefer using bicycles over motorbikes for safety, they don’t expose them to cold and because our prices are also cheap," said Ngeso.

With prices as low as Ksh. 30 for distances that motorbike riders would charge Ksh. 50, bicycle riders are finding it easier to make a living.

"In a day I usually make Ksh. 400 and this is what I’m using to feed my family too," Ngeso revealed.
