On Saturday night, a staggering traffic jam on Mombasa Road left thousands of road users stranded for hours. The congestion was reportedly triggered by an accident and made worse by drivers who had made overlapping a reckless habit.
While this incident is not an isolated case, it highlights the need for the police to take firm action against drivers who engage in such behavior. As we have previously pointed out, increasing the number of roads will not solve the problem of traffic congestion unless drivers are held accountable for their actions.
It is time for the police to stop condoning behavior that causes unnecessary pain to road users. They must act now and start by putting the brakes on mannerless, overlapping drivers.
