On July 3, 2021, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) dismissed reports that its officers had raided the offices of Senior Counsel John Khaminwa. According to EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, the reports were 'totally unfounded.'
Speaking to the press, Khaminwa confirmed that two individuals claiming to be state officers had indeed raided his office. However, he expressed doubts about their legitimacy, stating that they may not have had permits from the state.
While the raiders did not take anything, they demanded money from Khaminwa's assistant, who refused to give in. The incident occurred after Khaminwa's participation in the BBI appeal case, where he directly rebuked President Uhuru for leading the country without following the basic principles of law and court orders.
Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi responded to the news, stating that they would 'fight back fiercely.' However, he noted that the raid had nothing to do with Khaminwa's submission in the appeal case the previous day.
LSK President Havi also pledged to pursue the matter to its ultimate conclusion, ensuring that no advocate is vilified for representing parties opposed to the BBI.
