Published on July 4, 2021, an eight-year-old student from Harvest View Academy in Embakasi has made a name for herself in environmental conservation.

Karen Kimani, a pupil at the school, has won several international awards, including the Little Miss World United competition in Spain, where participants from 48 countries were involved.

According to her mother, Ann Njeri, Karen's talent for environmental conservation was noticed as early as 2017, when she was just four years old.

"We noticed that Karen had a talent in environmental conservation back in 2017. She was four-years-old then. Her father took a photo of her and posted on Facebook. His friend noticed how she posed for the photo and told him to take her to modelling school," Njeri told K24 TV.

At her school, Karen has been a role model to her fellow pupils, serving as the current Minister of Environment, a position she was elected to overwhelmingly.

When asked about her environmental concerns, Karen said, "I saw the fishes were dying and then my brain told me don’t let the environment to be dirty. Plants will die, fishes will die and animals will die."

She added, "When I was elected minister for environment, I was shocked."

Kimani has participated in tree planting in various locations, including Kisumu, Murang’a, and State House Girls.

"Trees are very important. Trees surround us. Trees give us food. Trees give us oxygen and fresh air," she said.
