On June 29th, 2019, news anchor Jeff Koinange received a distressing call from a close friend, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore. The call would change the course of their lives forever.
Collymore had been battling a terminal illness and had been told by his doctors not to make any long-term plans. In fact, he was given a grim prognosis: if he made it past July, he would be considered lucky.
Jeff Koinange rushed to Collymore's Nairobi home, cutting short a meeting with his mother and sister. What he found was a man at peace, yet haunted by regrets.
"I have lived a good life," Collymore told Jeff. "I have some regrets... it is not a perfect life but I am ready now," he said, his words a testament to the acceptance that comes with facing one's mortality.
Tragically, Collymore's words proved prophetic. He passed away on Monday morning, leaving behind a legacy that would be remembered for years to come.
