On July 3, 2021, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi declared his interest in vying for the presidency in the 2022 General Election.
Addressing religious leaders at his Kanyuambora rural home in Mbeere North, Embu County, Mr. Muturi emphasized that he has a wealth of leadership experience, making it an easy task for him to lead the country.
He noted that his vision is to restore discipline and order in the management of government resources in order to grow the country.
Mr. Muturi also disclosed that he had turned down advice by some politicians from the region to go for the Deputy President's position, stating that he is clear about what he wants to achieve and that he can't change Kenya while being number two.
He expressed his gratitude to the church leaders who threw their weight behind him and asked Mt. Kenya East politicians to rally behind the Speaker due to his good leadership.
