On Saturday, July 3, 2021, the town of Eldoret woke up to a shocking discovery: the body of a badly mutilated one-year-old child found along River Sosiani.

According to local resident Juma Akumu, this was not an isolated incident. In recent times, there have been a disturbing number of cases of dead children abandoned in the area and along the river, which runs through the town.

As Akumu noted, 'We are saddened by the increasing cases of young children being killed mercilessly, we call upon young mothers and residents alike to take care of the young angels and if one is not capable please take them to a children home.'

Confirming the incident, Turbo sub-county police commander Edward Masibo assured residents that investigations would be carried out and urged the public to provide information that could aid the investigation.

He also appealed to the public, particularly women, to refrain from committing such 'cowardly and illegal acts of taking the lives of innocent children.'

The body of the unidentified baby was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for further examination.
