On Thursday night, an unidentified man breached the security of the Laikipia County Assembly in Nanyuki town, gaining access to several offices within the precincts.
According to investigators, the man was seen on CCTV footage going through files and tearing down papers. He also smashed a computer keyboard and destroyed some documents.
Police, accompanied by sniffer dogs, spent the better part of Friday inspecting the premises and reviewing CCTV footage to determine the motive behind the incident.
House Speaker Patrick Waigwa assured the public that security experts had inspected the entire building and found no security threats, as they did not discover any harmful devices.
Waigwa also stated that the local security team was reinforced by their counterparts from Nyeri to investigate the incident further.
Despite receiving assurance from the police that the premise is safe, Waigwa urged all members of staff to remain vigilant until the motive of the intruder is known.
