Naushad Merali, a renowned Kenyan industrialist and founder of Kencell (now Airtel) and Sameer Group, passed away on July 3, 2021, at the age of 70 in Nairobi.
According to a funeral and burial announcement, Merali, who purchased 60% ownership of Airtel Kenya business in 2004, will be buried on the same day in line with Muslims' customs.
‘“It is with profound grief and sorrow that we inform you of the sad demise of Dr. Naushad Noorali Merali in Nairobi,” the family statement read.
The family requested that Covid protocols be adhered to firmly, allowing only immediate members of the family and those assisting with the burial proceedings to attend.
Details of a memorial service for the wider community and friends will be circulated in due course.
