Naushad Merali, a renowned entrepreneur and industrialist, has died in Nairobi at the age of 70.
According to his family, Merali passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021, at around 4 am.
Born on January 2, 1951, in Nairobi, Merali was the founder of Kencell, now Airtel, and Sameer Group.
ANC Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi expressed his condolences, saying, "I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Naushad Merali. A renowned and distinguished international entrepreneur, industrialist, and philanthropist. Our prayers are with Zarin, Yasmin and Sameer Merali."
Group Chief Technology Innovation Officer, Liquid Intelligent Technologies Kenya, also paid tribute, saying, "We are very sad to hear of the passing on of Naushad Merali this morning. Our thoughts are with Sameer Merali and the rest of the Family. May he rest in peace."
