Airtel Kenya has become the first telecommunications service provider to announce the new calling charges following the implementation of the Finance Act 2021.
According to a statement by Airtel, the increase in call costs is a result of the revised excise duty on telephone and internet services from 15% to 20%, effective July 1, 2021, as approved by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani.
“Following the Government’s amendment to the Finance Bill, the excise duty on telephone and internet services has been revised from 15% to 20%, effective 1st July 2021,” reads Airtel’s statement.
As a result, Airtel Kenya will increase its headline voice tariff to 2 Bob plus taxes, which will equate to Ksh2.78 per minute.
However, the firm has assured its customers that the prices of all data and voice bundles remain unchanged, including the Amazing, Unliminet, and Tubonge bundles.
