On July 2, 2021, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited Kieni in Central Kenya to pay his respects at the burial of Mumbi Ng'aru's mother, a former EALA MP.

During the ceremony, Odinga emphasized his commitment to supporting leaders from Central Kenya, recalling his role in helping former President Mwai Kibaki defeat Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2002 general elections.

'I have been there to support your leaders, many of whom are my friends,' Odinga said. 'We planned Vision 2030 together, and I know what ails our economy.'

Odinga also took a swipe at unnamed leaders in government, accusing them of derailing President Kenyatta's development agenda through rampant corruption.

He also touched on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) constitutional review, stating that the process would resume soon despite being halted by the courts.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega echoed Odinga's sentiments, stating that Central Kenya voters would rally behind him with the blessing of President Kenyatta.
