July 2, 2021 - CIC Insurance Group has strengthened its governance and strategic direction by appointing Nelson Kuria as its new chairman.

Kuria, a seasoned insurance expert, replaces James Magomere who had served as chairman for 16 years. Magomere joined the insurer in 1988 as a director.

The appointment comes at a time when the insurance industry is recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, which had slowed growth in premiums and sparked policy surrenders.

Kuria, who retired as CIC CEO in 2015, has extensive experience in the insurance sector, having served as a board member of several firms, including Kenya Re and the College of Insurance.

He takes over from Magomere, who oversaw CIC's growth from a small insurer to one of the leading insurers in Kenya and the region.

CIC has also announced the retirement of Jyoti Patel and the appointment of James Njue Njiru as vice chairman of the CIC board.
